7 Simple Steps to Turn your Favourite Snaps into an Amazing Wall Clock

Have you got loads of beautiful family photos that you want to display in your home, but you’re not sure how? How about creating your own photo wall clock? It’s pretty easy. We’ve partnered with the lovely Sacha and Anouke from the Maker’s Loft to help take you through the steps below. But first…

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 12 photo blocks (of frames if you would prefer)
  • 1x background image (optional)
  • 8x family photos (It you want to leave off the numbers you’ll need 12 photos)
  • Clock Mechanism
  • Hooks or hanging tape
  • Twine
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Measuring tape

Step 1: Start by creating your photo blocks

Now we want you to put your own creative spin on your wall clock! But if you want to use our block style as a guide here’s how we got the look.

For this project we used 10×15 photo block with a black edge (you could also use framed prints). We’ve also chosen a white wash timber look for our background image.

Tip: Pick a cool background that goes with your home decor – we have used a white wash timber look for ours!

To create the number blocks:

  1. Place in your background image
  2. Add in your text box
  3. Selecting your preferred font and colour, type in your number.
  4. Choose your font size. To get the correct font size you might have to expand your text box a little bit.
  5. Reposition your number until it’s been centred (you’ll a guide marking to let you know when it’s perfect!)

Note: For this clock we chose to have a shadow look to our numbers – if you choose to do this make sure you create your gray coloured number first. Then recreate it again with a different colour and reposition until you’re happy with the look.

Do you like the look of that background timber image being a border for your photos? Here’s how to get that look:

  1. In the layouts section, select an option where you can add two image.
  2. Resize these so that one completely fills the photo block and the other is slightly smaller than the full size.
  3. Drop in your photos

Note: You will need to recreate this for each of your photos.

Now you’re ready to start building your clock!

Step 2: Mark up the placement of your clock.

Once you’ve selected the wall make sure you mark up where you want your clock to sit. The best way to do this is use a tape measure to find the centre of the wall. To get the vertical positioning either use the tape measure to mark up around ⅔ of the way up the wall OR place the centre of the clock at eye level.

Use a string and pencil to mark out the placement for each of your photo “numbers” around the clock face. Holding the end of the string at the centre going.

Tip: The length of the string will determine how far they sit away from the clock mechanism. To get the perfect distance, use the measurement of the full length of your minute hand.

Step 3: Hang your clock mechanism

It’s the centrepiece of your clock, so make sure you start by hanging the clock mechanism first.

Step 4: Hang your photo blocks

Once you have marked out your positioning and hung your clock mechanism it’s time to start hanging each of your photo blocks.

Tip: Start with the numbered blocks first (or if you’re using all photos, the photo blocks that will represent the 12, 3, 6 and 9. That way it will be easier to make sure you have an even distance between each of the other photo blocks.

And there you have it! A beautiful photo wall clock full of your favourite family memories. You’re never going to be late again!
