Taking Your Indoor Winter Activity to a New Level With this Cool Crafty Idea

Need a little inspiration to help you put together a great winter activity to keep the whole family entertained?

Colouring in is always a winner. If you want to take it to a whole new level and impress the kids with your ingenious thinking, you’re in luck because we have the idea for you!

Here’s what you will need.

Something to colour in

To make this winter activity extra special you’ll need something really cool to colour in.

You could select and download one of the thousands of cool designs on the internet (this site is a great place to start). You could turn your very own photos into colouring in pages (did you know there are apps available for your phone for that? Colourscape on iTunes and Photos to coloring book on Google Play are just two). We have even put together a couple of special designs for you to use (download them via the links below).

We suggest starting with an idea of what you or your kids would enjoy colouring in – because otherwise you will spend hours browsing before you find what you’re looking for.

Something to colour on

Don’t be basic – paper is so last week. There are many other mediums to print your selected designs. And they are sure to get your clan excited about colouring.

Why not print on Canvas? Not only will you have a special, unique and personalised artwork to hang up at the end of the day, but with so many sizes to choose from, you could make the activity last for hours.

How about printing on a mug? You can never have too many coffee mugs. But aside from that, a beautifully painted one could make for a very special gift for a grandparent, parent or even a teacher.

If you’re looking for something a little more “old school”, why not create a photo book? Mix in a whole range of different colouring in patterns and scatter a few of your favourite photos or even create a colouring in story book. You can get as creative as you want when putting this one together.

Something to colour with

Here are our tips for the things you should use when you start colouring in.

For canvas:

Acrylic paint is going to work best for canvas. You can pick up pots of this from your local craft store or $2 type shops. Make sure you get a variety of colours that work with the images that you’ve chosen to print.

For mugs:

Acrylic paint can also be used on mugs as well. Once you have finished painting your mugs, ensure that you leave them to dry for 24 hours before putting them in your oven on around 140 degrees celsius for 20-35 mins. Once they have cooled, wash them with warm soapy water and they will be ready to use!

For photo books:

For most of the paper types that come with our photo books you will want to use a long-stay marker or paint pen.
